Tha Banks of the Danube

On the banks of the blue Danube…

Budapest, cut in half by the Danube with a hilly landscape on one side and a flat stretch of countryside on the other, boasts unique and spectacular views.

A fact that was recognised by Unesco in 1997 by listing Buda Bank as a world heritage site taking in the whole area around the Chain bridge (Clark Ádám Square) to the Technical University on the banks of the Danube, including the Gellért Baths, the Statue of Liberty and the Citadel, as well as all the buildings connected to Buda Castle.

The Pest side also benefits from this listing, the location of Parliament, Roosevelt Square in front of the Chain Bridge as well as the Vigadó building.

There are no less than four bridges over the Danube in this section (the Margaret Bridge, the Chain Bridge, the Elizabeth Bridge and the Liberty Bridge), all considered world heritage sites.

The banks of the Danube illustrate the different historical periods of the Hungarian capital and represent one of the most outstanding urban views in the world.
